How to Get That Vacay Feeling at Home

As nurses, it can be really easy to get caught up in waiting for your next trip, the next schedule, getting off of nightshift, and so many other outside factors to feel better. But here at Nurses Inspire Nurses, we believe that you can feel better right now without waiting for something external to change and make you happy. 

One of the ways you can do this is focusing on getting that vacay feeling, at home! You can use these three tips to start feeling like you're on vacation in your hometown. Here's how:

1. Know what feeling you're going for

What feelings do you get on vacation that make it so enjoyable? Adventure, freedom, excitement, relaxation - whatever it is, start thinking of those feelings. If you have a hard time thinking of any, google a list of feelings and pick the ones that feel most aligned with how you feel on vacation. 

2. Make a list!

With those feelings in mind, create a list of activities that you think will get you feelin' those vacay vibes. If you don’t know what activities to put here, start googling and looking for things that will allow you to play tourist in your own city! You can search for (safe, socially distanced) events, restaurants to try, or outdoor activities that sound exciting. This can be anything from trying a new coffee shop, renting kayaks and paddling on the lake, going to the farmer’s market, getting your nails done, or just driving around with the windows down blasting your music. Choose things that you think are going to give you those feelings that you’ve listed out! 

It's okay if you don't know what activities will give you those vacay feelings right now. Just list some things that sound fun and exciting, utilize google, and get curious! It might take some trial & error to figure out what activities you love.

3. Schedule it in

Things don't happen if we don't schedule them in. How do we make sure that we make a vacation happen? We put it on our schedule, request time off, and book the flights and hotels. You can do this in your day to day life and book an entire afternoon, day, or weekend that’s just dedicated to you finding your happy place and enjoying whatever you have planned. 

Once you've done these three things, you've got time off scheduled, a plan for how you're going to spend that time, and the feelings you're aiming for. We can't wait for you to find your happy place - at home!
