Fall Unit Activity - Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt

Looking for a fun and FREE fall unit activity? Look no further!
Our Business Operations Manger, Emily McKenzie, is the queen of fall and gave us this amazing idea for a pumpkin scavenger hunt that she did on her old unit. We hope it brings some positive energy and excitement to your shift (the good kind of excitement, not the other kind!).
  1. Designate someone to arrive to work 10-15 minutes early to hide the pumpkins!

  2. Print off the pumpkin sheets, the rules to hang up on the unit and a tracking sheet for each nurse that will be coming on shift here.

  3. Cut out each pumpkin and tape them in a unique location around the unit. Ideas for where to tape them could include inside the nutrition room cupboard, on the pixus, outside your manager's door, in a linen cart, etc. Make sure all the pumpkins are hung on your unit and not in any patient specific areas.

  4. At your start of shift huddle or at the beginning of the shift have everyone grab a tracking sheet. They'll use this tracking sheet during their shift to write down all the places they find the pumpkins. Make sure everyone knows not to remove the pumpkins when they find them, simply to document on the sheet the pumpkin # and location.

  5. Let the games begin! The first one to find all of the pumpkins on that shift wins!

Bonus Tip: To really make it fun add a small prize like a $5 Starbucks card or a small gift from the Nurses Inspire Nurses shop! You could also give a free prize like doing an admission, bed bath or linen change for the winner. If you're really looking to get in the fall spirit place a bulk order for our Halloween Classic Tee and have everyone matching the day of the hunt!
We can't wait to hear how it goes! Happy pumpkin hunting!
