Isn't it ironic that the moments we're too busy and without time to support ourselves are the exact moments we need all that extra self love and care?!
The next time you find yourself in this spot we hope this two minute check-in helps!
Allow yourself the space to honor where you are at. It's okay to not be okay. Sometimes admitting how we are feeling and not hiding it is enough for the moment. If you're really feeling brave say it out loud to yourself.
Allow yourself to be seen as a human being and find a way to give yourself one small act of support. As nurses we are always caring for everyone else, so we suggest turning the tables on yourself and supporting YOU today. It could be giving yourself a pat on the back, taking an action to support your wellbeing, or maybe it's receiving help from a coworker. So often we turn down help and don't allow ourselves to be supported! If you need help allowing more support into your life a line we love to use when someone offers a nice compliment or support is to say "Thank you. I receive that." As helpers and healers it can be so hard to put ourselves first and allow ourselves to be open to help. Try this line out the next time someone offers you support. Struggle to know what you need? Ask yourself what you would give to your best friend if they were in your same situation, then do that for yourself!
Find one small thing you're proud of yourself for. When times are hard we often forget to focus on what is working and what we're doing right. Get yourself in the mode of gratitude and love for who you are, how you're showing up in the world, and what you're doing in that moment. Say that one thing out loud to yourself or write it down on a sticky note and put it on your mirror to remind yourself.
Welcome to the most supportive nursing community on the planet! We're here to inspire you, lift you up, and help you shine brighter.
